Mélanie Delon

Mélanie is a freelance illustrator who lives in a small town near Alençon (Normandy, France). She creates illustrations for book covers, has worked for many publishing houses around the world, and created concept arts for the video game industry. Mélanie also has a number of works in progress for magazines specializing in 2D.

In 2007, Mélanie published her first artbook, Elixir 1 — a collection of illustrations with short stories, followed by the second volume in 2010. The worlds Mélanie seeks to create through her illustrations are based on fantasy—her favourite subject—but she always adds a touch of classicism and romanticism, as she finds mixing styles brings more realism to the painting.

After studying History of Art and Archeology at the Sorbonne, Mélanie went to a 3D school where she discovered digital illustration. She started to work as a freelance illustrator in 2005, by trading her pens and paper for Photoshop and a Wacom graphic tablet.

In 2012, Mélanie decided to try something new by creating her own publishing house/shop EXUVIA. In 2014 she released her third artbook, Opale 1, under this label. The second volume will be released in 2023.

Mélanie has taught digital painting at CGMA since 2017.
